State Library Victoria
Annual Report Publication
A functional and engaging annual report publication was designed for the State Library of Victoria.
The key value of innovation is captured through the portrayal of light, diffused or concentrated depending on the space and the knowledge people gain from it.

Image development
The atmosphere felt in the State Library of Victoria is heavily influenced by the quantity of light in each space. Bright light reflects the reading and knowledge to be gained and ambient lights reflects the focus and introspection of studying.
To portray the above an array of gradient shapes were created using warm toned colours that fade into a black background. The approach to image-making was to conduct a site visit to understand what the space looks and feels like. Only self-generated imagery was used, with colour gradients and subtle radial blurs applied to the images and headings to ensure cohesion with the graphic elements.
The approach to the layout included developing a flexible grid system that is appropriate for infographics, financial tables, sponsorship lists, typography and imagery. A simple 3 column grid was used to create flexibility for different elements in the report whilst ensuring consistency.
